before you leave for the hospital, the car seat should be properly installed in your car

comfortable clothing (dark colors recommended)

maternity underwear (the bigger, the better)

bath towel (hospital towels feel like paper)

sleeping pillow with pillowcase (incredibly important - hospital pillows are terrible)

baby take home outfit (newborn onesie, socks and hat)

newborn diapers, bottles, blanket (hospital supplies these so only bring if you want your own)

maxi pads (chrissy teigen said, "i didn't know i'd be going home in a diaper, too." yep - you'll need these for 3-6 weeks post-partum.)

toiletries (hairbrush, ponytail holders, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, chapstick, shampoo, face cream, deoderant, glasses, contact lenses)

stool softener (trust me. your hospital should provide this, but you might check before-hand)

car seat (hospital won't allow you to take baby home without one installed)

dockatot (trust me... you may want one for each floor of your house.)

friday baby mom washer (if vaginal birth)

formula, holle is a great european organic formula (even if you plan to breastfeed, have some on hand as a back-up until you know how much milk you're able to produce.)

breast pump (motif luna with battery, so you can walk around!) 

breast milk bags for milk storage, medela is great (if you are planning to breastfeed and/or pump) 

bottle brush (special brush to clean bottles with)

bottle dishwashing soap (dapple, unscented)

changing supplies basket (diapers, wipes and creams) for changing table

disposable diaper bags (sassy diaper sacks)

diapers, newborn size, the honest company (buy about 200 diapers to get you through the first few weeks.) 

baby wipes (water wipes, huggies are great)

onesies (long arms and legs, no matter the season of birth)
